This term standard is applicable to every stainless steel pipe. At times, it may become difficult to select a particular grade. For applications in regular environments, pipes and tubes made from grade 304 are preferred. This grade offers excellent resistance to corrosion and chemicals. Type 304 is not ideal for high temperatures 800 to 1650°F because they are prone to carbide precipitation.
However, stainless steel type is considered ideal for such applications because they have a low amount of carbon. Also, SS tubes are used when high temperatures or welding is involved.
Copper-nickel has been used for years in the shipbuilding industry. Due to its lighter material and corrosion resistance, it’s an excellent element for offshore piping. It’s also a more economical choice if used on a large-scale, long-term project (15+ years). Copper-nickel needs specific packaging care and welding specialists.
Copper-nickel pipe works well in the shipbuilding industry because of its seawater corrosion and biofouling properties. Some types of metal, like Alloy 706, are commonly used for shipboard fire protection. Copper-nickel alloys are also useful as condensers and heat exchanger tubes in power stations along the coast. Copper-nickel alloys have a firmly established record with marine projects.
Is there any difference between piping and tubing?
When considering the metal pipe and tubing, you might find both of the same. But there are many differences between them. Tubing comes with a definite structure while using it in a particular industry where the pipe is the most essential element. The thickness of the tube is taken with the measurement while the size measurement of piping is taken with the numbers.
For processing a different kind of products and transporting liquids, the steel pipe is used widely. Pipes are basically a standard material that is easy to produce. The manufacturing price of the steel pipe is also lower than the tube.
However, like the pipe, the tube is also used for transporting fluids, but it is used more as casing. The diameter and wall of the tube are thicker than the pipe.
